Just as the planets never stop moving, neither does your Mind, your psyche, your existence, your “being.”  With life being about eternal progression, we first have to try defining the “present moment” to understand this.  Well, you can’t really define the present moment because time is always moving, always cycling, always progressing forward, just like your feelings and your thoughts…  We are eternal, energetic, spiritual beings who are always progressing toward the future.  Thus, a progressed chart analysis and transits can show you what your psyche is up to during a specific period of time in your life and how you are changing, growing, progressing...

Progressions are symbolic.  They are a technique that takes a long unit of time and sets it to a short unit of time, referred to as “a day for a year.”  The short period is a reflection of the long period or a symbolic equivalency, like a fractal.  We only look at the inner planets for progressions, as in transits these planets move too quickly to develop real meaning or significance.  Transits focus on the slower-moving outer planets that pass through the chart very slowly and stress natal structures.  They are organic and natural and have a celestial and existential effect. 

Progressions activate what is shown in your natal chart, and transits tend to be external events that trigger the progressions.  Both are creating movement in your psyche, which may or may not result in you actually manifesting something new in your life.  This is because progressions happen internally and are subjective.  They indicate in which areas of your potential expressed in your natal chart you are going to be given an opportunity to consciously recognize and integrate aspects of yourself at different periods of your life.  There is no external pressure involved here, as that is provided by transits. 

Transits show how your progressions are going to be triggered through experiencing a myriad of external events that want to help your conscious mind change and grow, for it is only through our relationships with others and the outside world that we are given the opportunity to know our inner selves better and consciously make changes in our life that align with our Higher Selves.  Some transits may be pleasant and ecstatic while others may be miserable and depressing.  Both can help us learn important lessons about ourselves.

Progressions and transits must be related to your natal chart since they reveal the development and unfolding of the potentials in your chart and give you the opportunity to evolve on a deeper level that is aligned with your higher purpose.  Therefore, it is important for an astrologer to analyze your natal chart first to be able to interpret your progressions and transits in a way that is personalized to you and is cohesive and helpful.
